BOXING
NEXT WEEK’S CONTEST The South Canterbury Boxing Association has arranged an excellent programme for next week’s tournament, consisting of two professional contests, supported by two amateur bouts. In the first professional contest Colin Craib (Timaru) will meet Harry Dunn (Wellington). The Timaruvian will be making his debut in the professional ranks, after having compiled an excellent record as an amateur. It is the considered opinion of many followers of the sport that Craib will develop into a Jimmy Hegarty, who was the best light-weight seen in a Timaru ring. The Wellingtonian is rated high in his home province. In a double programme presented recently at the Town Hall, Wellington, Duiln was opposed, to Smith, another young professional, and the bout attracted an attendance of 2000. At the conclusion of their contest, both boxers were accorded an ovation. The Wellingtonian is also a fighter, and there should be few dull moments in next week’s contest. Both boxers will make the lightweight limit. In the second professional contest, Stan Jenkins (Oamaru) will meet Doug. Eddington (Timaru). On Thursday evening at Oamaru, Jenkins gained a close decision. Jenkins proved a very aw-kward opponent, and the experience gained should stana Eddington in good stead. Both boxers are aggressive fighters.
The Association has decided that ringside, dress circle and front stall seats may be reserved. The booking office will open on Tuesday.
