Christchurch: The weather was cold and overcast yesterday with frequent showers of rain. A light south-west wind was blowing. The maximum temperature was 41.9 degrees. The barometer rose slowly during the day and registered 29.79 in. at 5 p.m. Ashburton: The rain which began on Wednesday continued yesterday in showers, which were occasionally heavy. The temperature was cold, and a sharp south-westerly wind was blowing. The rain recorded at 9 a.m. amounted to 26 points for the 24 hours beforehand.
Geraldine: Heavy rain in the morning, showery in the afternoon. Rainfall at “Waitui” for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m., 23 points. Temuka: Light rain and a fall of snow down to the foothills resulted in the maximum temperature being only 40 degrees yesterday. The minimum recording was 32 degrees. There were 13 points of rain at 8 a.m. The glass was rising yesterday afternoon. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday)—Thermometer, max. 44.0; min. 35.0; frost, 4 degrees; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 39. Yesterday was overcast and cold with heavy showers throughout the day. Dunedin: The sky was overcast yesterday and there were several heavy showers. A light south-easterly breeze kept the temperatures down, the maximum for the day being 42 degrees. The barometer showed a rising tendency when at 5 o’clock it read 30.00 in.
