ANNUAL CONFERENCE DECISIONS ON MANY SUBJECTS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, June 24. The Returned Soldiers’ Association conference debated the subject of planned immigration to-day and renewed its support, the general opinion being that an increased population would mean an improved defensive position and increased possibilities for the employment of men unfit for heavy work. A delegate said that more internal trading would increase prosperity, but more such trading needed more population. The Council resolved to Instruct its representatives on the War Bunds Investigation Committee to obtain permission, if possible, from the committee after it has reached tentative decisions and before such conclusions are implemented to report to all associations and submit such tentative decisions for their comment as a guide to th? New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association representatives on the committee. In the even’ of this permission not being obtained the representatives are to be instructed to make an interim report to all associations to obtain their views. The conference agreed that in all cases where returned soldiers were receiving a veterans allowance and sustenance they should be required to report to the labour bureau monthly in stead of weekly as at present. The principle of special consideration to civil servant annuitants whose retirement took place before the completion of 40 years service owing to war service was supported, the cases to be dealt with on their merits. The Government is to be again urged to make more provision for the employment of ex-servicemen in the Government service.

The Canteen Funds Trust Board is to bi asked to grant not less than £12,000 during the present year for the assistance of the large number of partially disabled men still dependent on the benevolent funds to supplement their Income.
