SWIMMING

PAYMENT OF CLUB LEVIES The question of payment of affiliation fees due to the New Zealand Swimming Association by clubs was the chief subject of discussion at a meeting of the South Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association last evening, Mr H. H. Fraser presiding. Consideration was given to the fact that clubs had experienced a poor season through unfavourable weather and the Infantile paralysis outlook, and It was decided to request clubs for payment only of the 10/6 fee for the New Zealand Association and the annual capitation levy of 1/- for each active senior member. The secretary (Mr A. C. Rippin) reported having written thanking Mrs M. Mayo for a gift of a miniature cup for the winner of the 440 yards harbour race.—His action was endorsed. For the West End Club, Mr J. Drummond reported that the Hallenstein Bros’ cup race, for primary schools’ relay teams, had been held at the club’s wind-up carnival, and that the South Canterbury 50 yards championship had been won by M. Shanahan. A letter concerning the proposed formation of a National Council of Sport, was received from the New Zealand Association, and it was agreed that, together with several letters concerning clubs, they be circularised to club committees for consideration.

A motion of sympathy with tl. relatives of the late Mr James Bryce, a former member of the Old Boys’ Club, was passed.
