SPORTS ASSOCIATION

IMPROVEMENTS TO DOMAIN The president (Mr J. Mcllroy) presided at a meeting ot delegates representing the various sports bodies affiliated to the Geraldine Sports’ Association, held on Monday evening, to discuss means of financial assistance to the Geraldine Domain Board for Improvements to the Domain, repairs to the cycle track and drainage of the Oval. The president reported that a deputation from the Association had waited on the Domain Board, protesting against the removal of the asphalt track at the Domain. Members of the Board had met the deputation at the Domain recently and had asked that a meeting of the Association be held to discuss finance in connection with putting the track in order. Mr C. C. Knight suggested that as the Queen Carnival to be held In August was a community effort, the major portion of the proceeds be handed to the Domain Board for improvements to the Domain. He moved that 50 per cent, of the profits be given to the Board to put the cycle track in repair and improve the drainage of the Oval, the balance to be equally divided between clubs affiliated with the Association to date. The motion was seconded by Mr J. Stevenson and carried. The secretarj’ of the Geraldine Branch of the Womens Division of the Farmers’ Union wrote advising the Association that the Queen Carnival was outside the scope of the Division, but that as individuals, members would give every assistance in running the carnival. On the motion of “Messrs Z. O. Sherratt and F. W. Morgan, it was decided to have only a Citizens’ Queen and a Country Queen, a previous motion to have three queens being rescinded. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote advising the conditions under which permission could be granted for the promotion of an art union to raise funds for Improvements to the Domain. Messrs J. Mcllroy, Z. O. Sherratt, A. J. Burmester and the secretary (Mr T. J. Paterson), were appointed a committee to arrange for the running of an art union. The South Canterbury Rugby Union advised that September 4 or 11 was available as the date for the Geraldine seven a-side Rugby tournament, and it was decided to accept September 11 as a date for the fixture.
