CROWN TENANTS
WASHDYKE ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Washdyke branch of the Crown Tenants’ Association was held at the residence of Mr J. Donald, Seaforth Settlement. Mr P. R. Applegarth presided over a large attendance. Strong indignation was expressed at the continued delay of the Canterbury Land Board in granting relief in rentals to the Meadows Settlement, and it was unanimously resolved that the Commissioner be advised that unless some attempt is made to secure a voluntary adjustment at an early date, the Minister of Lands and the local Adjustment Commission be advised of the position. The secretary pointed out that the Adjustment Commission had afforded the Land Board every opportunity to meet the settlers. The revaluation committee’s report had been in for months and the State Advances Corporation had made overtures, but no move had been made by the Land Board. Mr R. Seivwright drew attention to the high price for chaff-cutting, the ruling price being 8d a bag. It was felt that chaff should be cut by the ton as in other districts. Several members stressed the need for approaching the Levels County Council with regard to the state of the roads in the district. It was decided that the secretary request the Council to make use of its roller In the district.
