WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
GAPES VALLEY The president (Mrs H. Bailey), occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the Gapes Valley Women’s Institute. Congratulations were extended to Mrs E, Maxwell and Mrs Stocker on the birth of sons. An invitation to the Arundel | Women’s Institute birthday party was received with thanks. Mrs G. Bailey, delegate to the annual Council meeting of the South Canterbury Federation held recently at Geraldine, gave a ver: comprehensive report of the proceedings. A most interesting demonstration of making flowers from wood fibre was
given by Mrs J. Mcllroy, Geraldine. Some fine examples of her work were also on view. On the motion of Miss A. Greaves, Mrs Mcllroy was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation. Competitions resulted as follow: Passe Partout framed picture, Miss L. Maxwell 1, Miss J. Chapman 2, Mrs V LeLievre 3. Best bloom, A section: Miss E. Hall; B section, Mrs H. Bailey. The tea hostesses were Mesdames T. Masefield, G. Bailey and C. G. Hibbs.
