TENNIS SOCIAL The Seadown Tennis Club’s end-of-season dance held in the school last Wednesday evening was most successful. Arrangements were carried out by members of the committee, and although rain fell in the earlier part of the evening, only a few were prevented from being present. Good music was supplied by Messrs Cross and Finn, while Mr McClarren contributed an extra. Novelties for the evening were won by Mrs Mackie and Mr G. Hewson (excuse-me lucky spot one-step) and Miss S. Hide and Mr Green (Monte Carlo waltz). The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr A. Mackie. After supper the president, Mr Cain thanked all who had assisted the club in any way throughout the year, especially Mrs Topham and Mr Edgar, and also those who gave trophies to all tournaments held during the season. The club captain (Mr Hughes) said that he appreciated the active interest that everyone had taken in the affairs of the club and hoped that next year the club would go ahead in the same manner.
Mr Edgar presented the year’s trophies and congratulated the winners. The winners were: Miss M. Hewson (ladies’ handicap championship, Mr Edgar’s trophy): Mr G. Hughes (men’s handicap championship, Mrs J. Topham’s trophy); Mr I. Oldfield and Miss B. Brasnahan, Easter tournament, with Mr L. Edgar and Miss E. Mehrtens as runners-up.
Those present included: Mr and Mrs Cain, Mr and Mrs Hughes, Mr : nd Mrs Ward, Mr and Mrs Mackie, Mr and Mrs Brosnahan, Mr and Mrs Dunnett, Mr and Mrs Orr, Mr and Mrs Cunningham, Mr and Mrs McClarren, Mrs Topham, Misses M. and V. McCully, D., 8., and G. Brosnahan, Armstrong, M. and W. Hewson, J. Topham, S. and R. Hide.
