KEEN COMPETITION IN LONDON United Press Association— By Electric Tel egrapb—Copyright LONDON, May 6. . At the wool sales, 7643 bales were offered, including 3291 New Zealand; 5489 bales were sold. A moderate selection met keen competition from the Home trade. Sellers’ limits were above buyers’ ideas, and withdrawals were frequent all round. New Zealand greasy crossbred “HH” top 19 id; average 19d; scoured half bred “Lilydale” 31»d and 29}d; slipe, halfbred lambs “Feilding,” 22-ld and 20ild. Fifteen thousand five hundred Australian and 26,000 bales of New Zealand were sold. Six thousand Australian and 6500 New Zealand were held over. Merinos showed par to 5 per cent advance, greasy, fine crossbreds 5 per cent up, medium coarse 10 per cent dearer at the beginning, but eased slightly and finished 74 per cent up. Scoureds lost the opening advance of 5 per cent. Throughout the series 67,300 bales were offered and 55.500 sold. The Home trade bought 29,500 bales and the Continent 26,000. The tendency throughout, after being firm, was quieter, but competition was keen. Compared with the closing prices of the last series, prices were from par to 74 per cent, dearer. Bradford Tops Market Bradford tops quotations: Merinos—70's 41d. 64’s 39d, 60's 371 d; crossbreds —sB’s 34d. 56's 32d, 50’s 27d, 46’s 244 d. 44’s 24d, the last two nominal. Owing to lightness of stocks, topmakers are not accepting new business unless at current rates.
