SMALL WAITING LIST

WAIPIATA SANATORIUM At a meeting of the Walplata Sanatorium Committee there were present: Messrs E. Macdonald (chairman), W. Bryant, J. Rodman, T. Golden, T. Dowling, A. Rennie, J. H. Smith, J. Ritchie and Dr. T. McKibbln, representing the Department of Health. Dr. A. Kidd (Medical Superintendent) was also present. A communication from the Sanatorium Patients’ Library Committee regarding books and magazines for the patients was received, and the representativ s of the different Boards were directed to bring the claims of the patients for suitable reading matter, in good order, before their Boards and the residents of their respective districts with a view to supplying the patients’ requirements in this direction. The secretary (Mr T. Pryde) reported that on April 23 the Associated Boards had 112 patients In the institution, of whom 39 had been under treatment for more than 12 months. Since the last meeting, five patients had been discharged. He submitted a waiting list of 20 patients from three hospital districts, and as arrangements had been made for the immediate admission of five, the waiting list was thus reduced to the lowest it had been for some time, and the remainder would be admitted in about a week or 10 days when the new shelters for male patients would be ready fo. occupation. As promised at the last meeting Dr. T. McKibbln (Medical Officer of Health, Dunedin) submitted an interesting report on the incidence of T.B. in the Southland, South Otago and Wallace Hospital districts, and consideration of this was held over until after it had been dealt with by the Boards concerned. The treasurer reported that there was a credit balance of £2481/7/- in the General Account at the Bank of New Zealand, and that the estimates for the ensuing year had been forwarded to the Department for approval.
