FRUIT BASKETS AND FUNNELS
A fruit basket or funnel for a hat, horsehair for evening wraps and leather for trimming, are some of the novelties shown in Paris. Horsehair stands out in beautifully crisp lines, and provides the romantic silhouette needed for picture frocks. The horsehair is made in shiny bands, and each is joined to the next, making horizontal cords in a tier effect. It is Schiaparelli who gets the credit for the inspiration. She showed these coats in dark blues with a midnight tint, and a hint of purple. The same designer has set Paris laughing with her fruit basket hat, and her funnel toque is a new version of the open crown. She takes a fruit basket as a model for the first creation, and piles velvet peaches, oranges, and bananas in the top in lavish profusion. Finished with Kid Soft kid in Coronation blue on a lighter tone of the same colour is ideal for trimming suits. Shoes and bags, as well as belts, should match. Buttons are also included in the matching set. The redlngote has remained severely plain as to material, though its outline has allowed plenty of scope for frills and fuerblows. It is now appearing in the United States in printed materials. Chiffon in twin patterns with crepes are employed. Jewellery is naturally taking a prominent place in world fashions, and sapphires, rubies, emeralds, diamonds, and pearls have new and interesting settings. Elaborate Bracelet Bracelets are elaborate in design, verv wide, and fitted close to the wrist. They show considerable metal, which in some cases is polished platinum. No rings are worn with these bracelets, which are ornate in type. Canoe-shaped flat platinum links, encrusted with diamonds, is one design. Sapphires and diamonds form a diagonal band across a broad piece of platinum in another. Two narrow bands support an enormous flower medallion of sapphires and diamonds. Chains of ruby beads and diamonds in multiple bracelets and twin clips for the decolletage are other innovations. Earrings of the sparkling button type are worn, and some are huge solitaire diamonds.
