ST. PATRICK’S CONCERT ENTRIES FOR SHOW There was a full house at the annual St. Patrick’s concert held in the Aorangi Hall on Thursday. Mrs A. Barton sang “Husheen” and "Killarney,” and Miss Bertha Rawlinson "-’he West’s Asleep” and “The Wearing of the Green.” Misses K. Plever, M. Donaldson, M. McKay and S. Oliphant presented an Irish jig and an Irish reel and tap dairies. Mr A. McDowell sang "Father O’Flynn” and "The Battle Hymn,” and among other songs Mr J. Kennedy presented “Believe Me if All Those Endearing Young Charms” and "Molly Bawn.” At the conclusion of the programme a song by Mr T. Creighton, “The Gay Highway,” was received with applause. In thanking those present for attending the concert, Father O. Gallagher said lie would like to pay a tribute to Mr T. Creighton, who had been responsible for obtaining the artists. He was sure many would have been pleased to hear Mrs Barton, who was better known in Fairlie as Chrissie Talbot, sing again.

VISIT FROM PLACEMENT OFFICER Mr R. G. Sampson, placement officer for the Department of Labour, Timaru. visited Fairlie yesterday and discussed labour matters with fanners attending the ewe fair. Mr Sampson stated that there did not seem to be any shortage of labour in the Mackenzie County, and moreover, fanners had been generally satisfied with the men sent out under the placement scheme. The Timaru office, he said, would be pleased to receive applications from either employers or men seeking work. A. AND I’. SHOW Entries for the Mackenzie A. and P. Show on Easter Monday have come to hand well, and the closing date has been extended in rase any intending exhibitors have overlooked their entries. To date, last year's figures have been equalled, and there is every indication that the show will compare more than favourably with previous fixtures. The rearrangement and extension of the dog section has brought entries from all over the South Island, and the dogs on exhibition will vary from toy Pomeranians to Great Danes. On Tuesday the ewe flock competition will be judged. So far six entries have been received: W. H. Collins, Winscombe; The Burnett Estate, Cave; Miss C. Burnett, Glengarry; T. D. Burnett, Corriearrack; Mr G. Wills, Opawa; Andrew Grant, Strathallan. An invitation is extended to the public to follow the judges and inspect the flocks. PERSONAL Miss Thyra Caplll, of Waiau, is visiting her parents at Kimbell.

"THE THREE MUSKETEERS’ At last Alexandre Dumas’ hot-head-ed d’Artagnan lives as that rotund French author presented him in his classic tale of the seventeenth century, “The Three Musketeers,” screening at the Fairlie Pictures at 8.15 this evening. The Broadway stage actor, Walter Abel, is responsible for his authentic and vivid recreation in RKO Radio's adaptation of the story. In "The Three Musketeers” the immortal firebrand stands out as a figure of daring, courtesy, reserved tenderness, passionate devotion to a cause, an exponent of physical and mental elan. Paul Lukas, Moroni Olsen and Onslow Stevens portray Athos, Porthos and Aramis, the three heroes. Margot Grahame, Heather Angel, lan Keith, Rosamond Pinchot, John Qualen, Ralph Forbes and Nigel de Brulier are also in the cast. Good supports will be screened. A matter of special interest to men who will be attending the Mackenzie Highland Show on Easter Monday is the new and special range of men’s Lynx suits and overcoats which the Fairlie branch of the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-op. Association now have on display in their drapery department. Tailored to fit and in a wide range of sizes and designs, these suits are well worth inspection The annual meeting of the Aorangi Football Club will be held in the Aorangi Hall on Wednesday night. A ball will be held in the Aorangi Hall on Tuesday night by the Fairlie Golf Club.
