A New Zealander recently returned from abroad gives an interesting description of the peasant life of Bavaria. “The women work in the fields and national dress is worn all the time,” she says. “The houses on the farms, instead of being scattered as they are in New Zealand, are built side by side, in a little village, and the people go out each day to their work. The houses are exceedingly high up and look like a picture- from Grimm’s fairy tales.”
Women’s organisation in Sydney have already submitt-d the names of several distinguished Englishwoman to include among the Government’s guests to the 15th anniversary celebrations next year. So far the only New Zealand woman invited is Princess Te Puea Herangl, the Maori leader, and it is not yet certain whether she can make the journey. If the Princess does go, she will take a party of Maoris with her. The English women suggested as guests Include Dame Gwen Wynne Vaughan (head of the Girl Guides in England), Lady Eleanor Cole (for eight years president of the Associated Countrywomen of the World), and Dame Ogllvia Gordon (a vice-president of the International Council of Women).
