ANZAC DAY
NO PROVISION FOR OBSERVANCE ON MONDAY Bv 1 t-'PsrflDh Pre«« Association WELLINGTON, March 18. Anzac Day falls on a Sunday this year and the question has been raised whether the following Monday will be observed as a holiday. The position is that Monday will not be a holiday unless definitely prescribed as such in an award of the Arbitration Court. The official ruling given by the Labour Department reads.— Under the Anzac Day Act, 1920, as amended in 1931-32, Anzac Day is to be observed throughout New Zealand as if it were a Sunday. Anzac Day this year falls on a' Sunday. No provision is made in the statute for the observance of Monday where Anzac Day falls on a Sunday. Several awards ot the Court of Arbitration provide for rte observance of Monday as a holiday where Anzac Day falls on a Sunday, and in such case this provision must be followed. In the Public Holidays Act, there is a provision tor Mondayising certain holidays, but Anzac Day is not Included.
