MILK FOR CHILDREN
DAIRY BOARD CONTRIBUTES £lO,OOB By lelegrapb—Press Association WELLINGTON, March 18. Approval of the action of the Dairy Board in offering a contribution of £lO,OOO for a free supply of milk to children was expressed by the Dominion Dairy Conference to-day. The delegates were of the opinion that there should be no further contribution by the Board, and that in view of the fact that there was to be a national scheme the expense should be borne by the Consolidated Fund. The chairman of the Dairy Board, Mr A. J. Murdoch, said that until quite recently the board had not been called upon for money for the milk scheme. In its original form it was represented that the scheme would cost £107,000, and the board was prepared to contribute approximately 10 per cent. The scheme now proposed was to cost more than £200,000, and the board had been asked to contribute 10 pc.' cent of that. All that the board was prepared to do was to meet the commitment of the previous board and contribute £lO,OOO. The following remit was carried: “That this meeting approves of the Dairy Board’s action In offering £lO,OOO for a free supply of milk to school children, but that the amount be limited to one year only.”
