MINOR GRIEVANCES
MACHINERY FOR SETTLEMENT By Telegraph—Press Association HAMILTON, March 18. A denial that he refused to hear a deputation of Public Works men at Pukerau, was made by the Hon. R. Semple to-day. The Minister said he had confused the Pukerau camp in his first statement with another camp he had visited 40 miles way. He had just learned from Mr Kelliher, the Works Engineer at Dunedin, that while he was at Gore two men from Pukerau saw Mr Kelliher over a complaint, and after a discussion seemed satisfied. Mr Semple said he visited the district on February 11, and the job had only just started then, so that there would be little time for any grievance. Any wet weather took place after his visit. “Instead of airing their grievances through the proper channels they rushed into print, and blamed me for the wet weather. I am always ready to hear bona fide complaints, and put the matter right, but obviously it is impossible for me to hear minor grievances. That is why proper machinery through the engineers is provided.”
