Schmellng has deposited 25,000 dollars that he would meet Joe Louis in the United States in September if he beats Braddock. MAURICE STRICKLAND IN AMERICA IMPRESSIVE FIRST APPEARANCE United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copvriaht NEW YORK, March 11. Maurice Strickland (New Zealand) made an impressive American start by fighting a draw in a Ven round bout with Arturo Godoy, the unbeaten American. A crowd of 4000 saw a rousing fight in which action never lagged. Godoy had 171 b advantage and finished strongly to offset Strickland's early lead. Strickland’s rights to the chin earned him rouns 2,3, 4 and 5 in succession.
