GIFT TO ST. MARY’S

CARVED OAKEN PULPIT As a lasting tribute to the memory of her mother, Mrs Barbara Anne Priest, of Timaru, a beautifully carved oaken pulpit has been presented to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Timaru, by Lady Shirtcliffe, of Wellington. The p.'.plt, which replaces the one of Oamaru stone which has been in the church since its construction, is of carved fumed oak to match the reredos above the altar, and on the central panel facing the body of the church it has a full relief oaken figure of the Madonna and Child. Round the top of the pulpit is a carved frieze of lat-tice-work embossed with wooden roses, the whole ot the carving being done by Mr F. G. Gurnsey, of Christchurch, who also performed the figures of the Last Supper group on the back of the altar. The late Mrs Priest was one of the earliest parishioners, and the brass plate on the pulpit has the following inscription: "In memory of Barbara Anne Priest, a faithful parishioner from the beginning of the parish until February 1. 1935.” The pulpit will be dedicated at the 8 o'clock communion service on Sunday morning.
