SCHOOL COMMITTEE The monthly meeting oi the District High School Committee was presided over by Mr Christie also present were Mrs Taylor, Mrs Cartwright and Messrs W. Crawford. R. Esler, R. More, W. Halkelt and the headmaster. Mr A. C. Gibb. The headmaster reported that the school reopened on March 1 with a roil number of 259. The Cave and Pleasart Point bus service commenced on March 1. the bus. carrying a full complement of children. The caretaker was to be complimented on the cleanliness and appearance of the rooms on opening day. Miss Grocott had commenced duties as probationary assistant and Miss Oed, as relieving teacher. Miss Cleland supernumerary assistant left on March 5 to relieve at Makikihi. The annual sports would be held on March 25, and the cross country race on March 18 over a course yet to be decided. The Board’s workmen had completed the Improvements to the ventilation and lighting In two classrooms. A general discussion took place in regard to the proposed supply of milk to children. It was agreed to do all possible to further the proposal and t.! link up with Timaru or Ternuka, if possible. The seer- ary was instructed to ask the board to have the headmaster’s residence connected with the septic tank. Owing to the consolidation of Cave with Pleasant Point, and the possibility of one or two other schools coming in in the near future it was decided to approach the board for extra accommodation for "”i, firewood and bicycles. It was decided to ask the board for authority t'> sign the petition to have the school connected to the high pressure system when available.
