CHILD DROWNED
CRAWLED INTO POND By Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, March 8. About five minutes after being missed, John Charles McNeill, aged 115 months, was found drowned at mid-day yesterday, when his parents, Mr and Mrs Harry McNeill, discovered his body in a fish pond in their front, garden, in Carrington Road. Efforts to resuscitate the infant were unavailing. The child was playing about the garden with other members of the family when he disappeared. A search was begun immediately, and he was found lying face upwards in less than 18 inches of water. The boy was unable to walk properly, and it is surmised he crawled to the pond, raised himself to the top of the ledge, about two feet high, and toppled over as he was watching the fish.
