Mr and Mrs J. C. Grace, Stratford, are guests at the Dominion. Mr and Mrs A. Radford. Wellington, are registered at the Grand. Mr and Mrs D. F. Murchison, Queenstown, are visitors to Timaru and are staying at the Grand. Mr and Mrs F. Bull, Blenheim, and Mr and Mrs T. T. Denbee, Masterton, are staying at the Grand. Miss Iris Powell, Springston, is the guest of Mrs Maurice Watson, Geraldine. Mr and Mrs H. S. Innes and Miss Innes, Auckland, are staying at the Grosvenor. Dr. and Mrs L. S. Talbot, Te Weka Street, who have been o a visit to the North Island, have returned home. Mr and Mrs W. Thomas, Te Weka Street, who are on a Visit to Wellington, are expected home t '-day. Miss Peggy Unwin, Church Street, spent the week-end with Mrs G. Pinckney, “Glenaray,” Southland. Inspector Shanahan and Mrs T. Shanahan of Timaru are holidaying at the Hermitage, Mt. Cook. xdrs W. D. Campbell and the Misses Ailsa and Margaret Campbell returned on Sunday from a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs F. B. Bolt, Lower Hutt, are staying with Mrs Veitch and Miss Bolt, Highfield. Mr and Mrs H. Baker, W'anganui, who have been on a visit to Timaru left yesterday for North Canterbury. Mr T. Jordon, president of the Municipal Association of New Zealand and Mrs Jordon will arrive to-day and will be guests at the Grosvenor. Mrs Redmond Neill, “Barossa,” is on a visit to Dunedin. Miss Josie Neill arrived yesterday to s\ay with Miss Annette Orbell, “The Levels.” Miss V. Bethell and Miss H. Smith of Perth, West Australia who are touring New Zealand are visiting the Hermitage, Mt. Cook. The engagement is announced of May, only daughter of Mr and Mrs D. Donaldson, Rhodes Street, Timaru, and Vai., son of the late Mr and Mrs W. H. Fahey, St. Clair, Dunedin. Mr P. Campbell, Theodocia Street, has left for Nelson tQ attend the conference and Demonstration of the United Fire Brigade Association accompanied by Mrs Campbell and Miss Anne Campbell. The Rt. Rev. G. A. Chambers, Bishop of Central Tanganyika and Mrs Chambers, who were the guests of Archdeacon H. W. Monaghan and Mrs Monaghan, “The Vicarage,” LeCren Street, left yesterday for Dunedin. Miss Amy Nevill-Smith, “Silver Birches,” Sophia Street, who has been spending several months in the North Island is expected home this week. Miss Nevill-Smith gave a short vocal and violin programme over the air from Palmerston North on Thursday evening.
Miss Edna Barrett of St. Albans, Christchurch, is spending a climbing holiday at Mt. Cook. Miss Barrett has climbed on the West Coast. For her first effort in the Mt. Cook region she chose the Footstool, 9075 feet, accompanied by Guides Mick Bowie and Harry Whitley. From the Sefton Bivouac the summit was reached in four hours in good condition, but unfortunately the cold southerly wind prevented an extended stay on the top. The descent was uneventful but all enjoyed the glissading. Mrs Percy Davies, Cameron Street, was hostess last evening at a trump whist party given in honour of Miss Doris Jones who is to be married at Easter. Each guest brought a gift for the kitchen of the bride-to-be. Those present were Mesdames W. E. Jones, H. Gould, D. Davies senr., E. Philip, O. L. Robertson, D. Wraight, A. B. Struthers, G. Robertson, Misses Doris Jones, Betty Sutherland, Sarah Morgan, Doris Davies, Emma Jones, Joan Mclntyre, Betty Holdgate, June Robertson, Enid and Doris Patchett and Lenore and Berta Wood.
