Mason) jg to be asked to consider the advisability of reviewing the rates for witnesses’ expenses, according to a decision made at the annual conference of the New Zealand Justices of the Peace Association last week. Mr J. J. Hurley (Canterbury), on whose suggestion the decision was made, said wages had gone up and it seemed unfair that a man being paid 2/6 an hour at his employment should be required to put in a day at the court for 8/-, especially when an accused person pleaded not guilty and the case had later to go before the Supreme Court.
