Mar. 19 11.16 p.m. Full Moon Mar. 27 10.42 a.m. CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Although the weather on Saturday inclined to the nor’-west, the wind was light and conditions were warm and pic..-.Tilt. The inevitable change to a southerly came during the evening, however, and yesterday was overcast and cold with a chilly south-east breeze prevailing. Records at Timaru Park on Saturday:— Max. temp.—79.4 . Min. temp, on grass—4l.6. Wind—N.W.l. Rainfall—Nil. Sunshine—6.B hours. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—29.s. Max. temp.—6o.6. Min. temp, on grass—46.2. Wind—S.E.l. Rainfall to midnight—Trace. Rainfall to date this year—6.7sins.* Rainfall to date last year—U.2sins. Sunshine—Nil. Sunshine to date this year—422.shrs. LN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— On Saturday a gusty north-west wind blew and the day was fine and mild. Yesterday the wind was again north-west, but light, and the day was warm and overcast. Geraldine— Saturday: Bright sunshine throughout the day; fine to very warm. Yesterday: Conditions were bleak and overcast. T<muka— Contrasting strikingly with the warmth of Saturday, when the maximum shade temperature was 73 degrees, yesterday was overcast and cold, the temperature not rising above 60 degrees. The minimum recordings were 40 degrees on Saturday and 48 yesterday. The glass was falling last evening.

Dunedin— Changeable conditions prevailed on Saturday, the morning being bright and fine with a warm northerly breeze. Shortly before midday the maximum temperature was 70 degrees, but the wind changed to the south-west and the temperature the afternoon and continued throughout the night. Yesterday was dull dropped to 62 degrees. Rain fell in with scattered showers. The wind was again from the south-west and the maximum temperature was 56 degrees. The barometer showed a falling tendency. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General Situation—Another rather intense depression of the westerly type is crossing the Dominion, while an anticyclone now covers South-Eastern Australia and extends across the South Tasman Sea. Winds—Moderate to strong northerly to westerly of gale force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier, backing to southerly again soon in the far south, and southerlies extending over most of the Dominion within the next 24 hours. Seas <New Zealand waters)) —Rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate, but rising later south of East Cape.

Eastern Tasman Sea—Variable winds at first in the northern portion, otherwise southerlies prevailing; force moderate to strong and increasing with rising seas. Weather—Unsettled, cloudy and squally with fairly general rain and some heavy falls, especially in districts with a westerly aspect; temperatures becoming colder and hail probable later in the far southern and eastern coastal areas of the South Island.
