ONE DAY MATCHES START BRIGHT EXHIBITION One day matches were ushered in by the South Canterbury Cricket Association on Saturday following the completion of the competition, under happy auspices several bright exhibitions being given. The weather was favourable and the wickets generally were in good order. Four matche were played and the first of the series was completed. UMARU v. SCHOOL Timaru secured a win against High School at the Rectory by 29 runs, after several bright exhibitions had been given with the bat. School batted first and made 120, the first three batsmen,

Williams, Blue and Watt showing good form. GERALDINE Old Boys B defeated Geraldine by 59 runs in the match played on the Geraldine Oval on Saturday. Old Boys went in first, M. Morrison and Gaffaney facing the bowling of F. Stack and E. E. Scott. Gaffaney was caught at four, and his successor, Merrett, met a similar fate. He was replaced by Fear, the score at the fall of the second wicket being 24. Morrison and Fear then carried on in a most useful partnership, compiling 78 between them. Morrison hit two fours, one three, and eight twos, while Fear hit two beautiful boundaries and three fours. Fear was dismissed by Stone-Wigg, while Morrison was caught by Scott from Campbell. Moore, whose wicket fell to Stone-Wigg, hit a six and a four. Auld also found the boundary. With the exception of Reid, not out 10, the remaining batsmen went cheaply. Stone-Wigg and Scott opened for Geraldine, the latter being caught at 10, while the former reached 17 when his wicket fell to Morrison. F. Stack had 11 up when he was caught, and G. THIRD GRADE Washdyke defeated Bruce’s by two wickets. Bruce’s made 34 (Rankin 14, P. James five for 12. R. Moore five for 19) and Washdyke 55 <R. Moore 16, Rankin five for 11. GOLF CLUB TEAM In a match played during the weekend Old Boys seniors defeated a Timaru Golf Club team by five runs. The Golf Club scored 165 (G. Ussher 45, W. Sullivan 21. G. P. Lawson 42 not out).
