IMPORTANT BUSINESS
MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE IN TIMARU Matters affecting practically all branches of municipal administration will be discussed at the twentyseventh conference of delegates of the New Zealand Municipal Association, opening in Caroline Bay Hall on Tuesday evening. The conference will be attended by 143 delegates, of whom 41 will be accompanied by their wives and families, who already have practically booked out the hotel accommodation in town. The proceedings will be opened on Tuesday evening with a civic welcome by the Mayor (Mr P. C. Vinnell), and an address to delegates by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon W. E. Parry), Members wifi be faced by a substantial agenda when they settle down to business on Wednesday morning. The llct of remits numbers 108, but as many of these are merely a repetition of resolutions passed at previous conferences, it is expected that they will not entail much discussion. The subject matter of the remits covers a wide field, embracing airports, Auctioneers’ Act, by-laws, cemeteries, drainage, dogs, earthquake protection, elections, electrical undertakings, finance, fire prevention, housing survey, Impounding Act, loans, motor legislation, rates, stock, town planning, valuation, and water supply. It is expected that by sitting on Wednesday evening the conference will complete its business by Thursday afternoon. At the conclusion of the Association Conference, the conference of delegates to the New Zealand Municipal Electric Supply Association will be held, this being tentatively set down to open at 4 p.m. A round of entertainments has been arranged for the visitors, including a social on Thursday evening and excursions .arranged by the Borough Council on Friday.
