WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

GLENITI At the fourth annual meeting- of the Glen-iti Women’s Institute, Mrs Finlay presided. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs Rawson in the death of her son and to Mrs Selbie and Mrs E. H. Pearse who are ill. Mrs Breeze was congratulated on the birth of a daughter. Members were reminded of the coming Winter Show. Mrs Finlay thanked all members for their support during the year. The secretary gave a report on the year’s work, and the treasurer read the balance-sheet, which was adopted. Mrs McAlister spoke of the good work done by the president, secretary and treasurer during the year. Mrs Ramsay also spoke and presented each with a floral tribute. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames Small, Selbie. L. Clark, G. Clark, Ruston and Miss L. Selbie. Competitions resulted: Specimen bloom, Mrs Pringle 1, Mrs D. Ramsay 2, Miss G. Ramsay 3. Jar raspberry jam. Mrs Pringle 1, Mrs Small and Mrs D. Ramsay equal’ 2. Most useful apron, Mrs D. Ramsay 1, Mrs Pringle 2, Mrs Olver 3. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs W. H. Finlay; vice-presidents, Mesdames McAlister and Winnington; secretary, Miss M R. Arras; treasurer, Mrs North; committee, Mesdames Parker, Rawson, W. Brown, Jackson, Pringle, Gledhill, D. Ramsay, C. Morse, Small, Black, Miss Berry. TE NGAWAI A large crowd attended the combined sports of the Women’s Institute and School Committee, which were held in the school grounds. The first item on the programme was lunch, which was served in the playground. Next came the treasure hunt and the children were all delighted with their presents. The rest of the afternoon was spent in races and games. At the afternoon tea interval a Christmas cake, given to the school children by Mr T. Powell, was cut by Mrs Cain. In the evening a Cinderella dance was held. A Christmas cake, given by Mrs Howes, was won by Mrs W. Guy. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs Cox, Miss Z. Elliott and Messrs T. and P. Dowling. Mr A. Elliott was M.C
