Th pilot and the sole passenger were killed when a rented aeroplane crashed on a lawn at Patchogue, Long Island, in full view of hundreds of person? in the surrounding buildings of the nearby railway station. Witnesses heard that the motor was "missing” and believed that the pilot was attempting to land on the lawn. An aeroplane accident occurred at Mascot aerodrome to-day, jn. which Squadron Leader D. Stodart was injured internally. Accompanied by a Japanese pupil, Stodart took off and began to ascend when one wheel of the machine fell to the ground. The pilot, unaware of the mishap, circled the aerodrome for a few minutes and, when he was attempting to land, the machine capsized.
. The Japanese, who was unhurt, released Stodart, who was sent to hospital. The machine was not severely damaged. Stodart was a competitor in the Melbourne centenary air race.
