The “Anatomy" which Robert Burton wrote as an antidote to his frequent depression of spirits is one of the most "dippable” (and most unscrubulously raided) of literary treasure houses. Dents have now combined the three volumes of the “Everyman’s" edition of Charles Lee (based on the sixth edition which contained the additions and correctioins left by Burton at his death) in one volume. It contains many elucidatory notes additional to Burton’s own thousands, the Latin quotations are given with new translations, and James Thornton has made an index which gives the Burton addict a most engaging guide to the products of that extraordinary and erudite mind. This is in every sense the “complete” edition.
