KIM'S GAME
SOME VARIATIONS Here are some variations to Kim’s Game which should liven it up a bit. Blindfold Blindfold the Scouts and then pass down the line a series of small objects (say about a dozen) which they have to recognise by touch and remember. When all the things have been felt by everyone, bandages can be removed from the eyes and everyone tries to make a list of the things in their proper order. Listening Here again everyone is blindfolded or else shut their eyes while the Scouter makes a series of noises such as blowing his noise, dropping a pin, etc. Each chap then prepares a list as in the previous game. Difference For this Scouts work in pairs. Two similar collections of articles are made which only differ slightly. Thus in one collection there might be a live match and in the other a dead one and so on. Scout A looks at one collection for a given time and Scout B at the other. A and B must them get together and, by telling each other what they saw, produce a list of the differences between the things in the two collections. Things of the same Class We tend to forget that we should progress in our powers of observation as in everything else. For this reason it is a good idea sometimes to try Kim’s game on a collection of things where the differences are relatively slight. For example, a collection of various leaves, or of bits of cotton of different sizes and colours provide a good test of observation and memory.
