The selection of one common day for observance of provincial anniversaries throughout the Dominion was proposed in a resolution of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, which was placed before the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. The proposal came through the Associated Chambers of Commerce, and Canterbury representatives were asked for their comment. After a long discussion, during which it was stated that many employers here had given their workers Easter Saturday instead of Anniversary Day for a number of years, and that Dominion Day might be a suitable day for general observance, It was decided to reply that Canterbury had made its own arrangements and was not interested in making an alteration.
