MONKS ON STRIKE
STAY-IN TACTICS IN MONASTERY United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright CAIRO, March 4. A force of 250 police were instructed to capture the monastry, avoiding bloodshed if possible, but retaliating if the stay-in monks attack. This action follows the failure to reach a compromise with the members of the “Peace Commission,” after refusal of admission to the monastry, conducted in shouted conversations, the monks manning the 15 feet walls. The monks formerly received 6/monthly pocket money, recently increased to 30/-, upon which with accumulated savings, they made pleasure trips to neighbouring Moslem villages. The residents issued an ultimatum that any further visitors would be shot at sight. The monks thereupon were forbidden to go to a village, resulting in a stay-in strike, and the demand for the removal of the abbot. ,
