Lord and Lady Galway and family left Gisborne yesterday in the Government steamer Matai for Wellington.

Constable L. Studholme, formerly of Timaru, left Christchurch yesterday to take charge of the police station at Kumara.

Sir John Lamb, K.C.8., LL.D., will arrive by the Awatea on March 30 to make a tour of the Dominion.

Messrs Chas. H. Hobbs, F. T. Turner, A. J. Salla (Christchurch), J. G. Morgan (Melbourne), R. Brough (Dunedin) and C. Pack (Invercargill) are guests at the Balmoral. Reference to the death of the Controller and Auditor-General (Mr G. F. C. Campbell) was made by the president of the conference of the Hospital Boards’ Association in Timaru yesterday, and a motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried in silence. Included in the guests at the Grosvenor are Messrs C. Boothman, A, B. Roe, J. L. Dempster, R. H. Marlow, R. Moore (Wellington), W. B. Williams, L. M. Biss, D. A. Merryweather (Auckland), T. Trafford, C. A. Harries (Gisborne) and H. W. Taylor. Owing to ill-health, Mr A. B. Lane has resigned from the position of manager of the United Press Association. Mr Lane was appointed manager in 1930 and before that he was news editor of the “Christchurch Times” and “Star.” The Gazette announces the following appointments to the Advisory Council of Scientific and Industrial Research: Professor H. G. Denham (chairman), Professor J. Malcolm, Messrs J. c. Andrews, A. H. Cockayne, G. A. Pascoe, R. O. Page, T. Rigg, J. M. Ranstead and W. Rlddet.
