GERALDINE

R.S.A. AFFAIRS VISIT OF DOMINION VICE-PRESIDENT A meeting of the executive of the Geraldine Returned Soldiers’ Association was attended by the President (Mr W. McClure), Dr. G. W. Curtis and Dr. L. C. Mail, Messrs A. A. Readdie, W. H. Jackson, F. W. Morgan, R. P. Harper, J. G. Grierson, T. Hutt and F. W. Grayburn (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs E. O. Winmill, P. M. McKenzie, J. H. Lewis and H. J. Bowkett. The general secretary, Dominion headquarters, Wellington, advised that Mr B. J. Jacobs, the Dominion vicepresident of the Association, would make a tour of the South Island during February, and would attend a joint meeting of representatives of the Geraldine, Temuka and South Canterbury Associations at Timaru on the evening of February 13. It was hoped that members of the Geraldine Association would attend f as the function w&s open to all ex-servicemen. The Committee agreed to advertise to that effect, members wishing to attend to communicate with the president or the secretary (Mr F. W. Grayburn). Circular letters were received from headquarters in regard to the exservicemen’s contingent to attend the Coronation, intimating that applications to join the contingent could be made through local Returned Soldiers’ Associations. Application forms were also enclosed, and were available from the president or secretary. The President reported on the pensions cases which had been dealt with since the last meeting, intimating that one additional pension had been granted. Other cases were still under consideration by the Pensions Board. The treasurer (Mr A. A. Readdie) reported that the finances were in a satisfactory condition, and, as additional pensions had been granted to disabled men and as there was more work available than had been the case for some time, there had not been so many calls on the Association’s relief funds. The Committee expressed satisfaction at this state of affairs.
