WEDDINGS

O’CONNOR—ROONEY At the Church of the Sacred Heart, Timaru, the marriage was celebrated of Mary Margaret Julia, only daughter of Mrs and the late M. T. Rooney, Adair, and Francis Patrick, only son of Mrs and the late Patrick O’Connor, late of Hassall Street, Timaru. The Rev. Father W. J. Peoples, S.M., officiated. The occasional music was supplied by Mr Murphy (organ), and Mr Jack Cremin (violin). The bride, escorted by her brother, Mr T. J. Rooney, wore a frock of creme parchment satin made on slim fitting lines, the panelled back falling into a graceful train. The bodice was finished with a high neckline showing a small roll collar. The tight fitting sleeves were pointed forming a peak over the hands and showing a row of tiny buttons to the elbow. It was slashed from the shoulder to show an inset of pleating. Her creme tulle veil falling over her long train was held in place by a becoming headdress of cream camelias. She carried a bouquet of deep cream shaded begonias and maidenhair fem. Miss Lillian Lyne, bridesmaid, wore a frock of cornflour blue angelskin lace with skirt falling into a slight train. The bodice was made with a cowl neckline draped to form a square. The full sleeves were slit to fall back from the elbow. The back was trimmed with a row of tiny velvet buttons and a velvet bow. She wore a sisal straw hat trimmed with a velvet bow. Her bouquet was of deep pink shaded begonias and maidenhair fem. The little page boy Brian Rooney nephew of the bride, wore a long suit of cream satin with tailored mess jacket finished with blue velvet lapels. Mr John O’Connell, cousin of the bridegroom, was best man. The reception, at which Father Peoples presided .was held in the Bay tea rooms where Mrs Rooney received her guests wearing a blue floral frock patterned in red with navy blue swagger coat and hat to tone. She carried a bouquet of tiny red roses and maidenhair fern. Mrs O’Connor, mother of the groom, wore a black floral frock patterned in orange and green with a black swagger coat and hat to tone. Her bouquet was of mixed sweet peas and maidenhair fern. When Mr and Mrs O’Connor left on a tour of the West Coast, the bride wore a smart navy tailored costume and small navy hat with eye veil, navy accessories and a fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom.
