WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

WAITUNA Mrs V. Barnard presided over a good attendance of members at the January meeting of the Waituna Women’s Institute. She extended a welcome to members and visitors, and trusted that they would have a happy time in the New Year. The secretary, Mrs W. P. Wilson, delvered an instructive address on gardening. Mrs J. Hutt and Mrs W. Ross, who attended the half-yearly meeting of the Federation, each gave an Interesting account of the proceedings. A demonstration of bread-making was given by Mrs M. J. Friel, after which each member was given a tasty piece of the loaf to sample. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had given the various talks and demonstrations. Members were reminded that the Group meeting would take place on March 19, when the competitions would consist of preserved fruit and vegetables, lib jar of jam, and a tumbler of jelly. The Waituna Institute competition would be the best sleeveless pullover and oven-scones. Competitions for the month resulted: Best flower, Mrs J. Hutt (gladioli) 1, Mrs A. Bartos (gladioli) 2, Mrs A. W. Good (fuchsia) 3; rose, Mrs A. E. Lewis 1, Mrs W. Polascheck 2, Mrs D. Kirkpatrick 3; toffee, Mrs A. Williams 1.
