SUNDAY TRAINS

IMMEDIATE RESUMPTION OF SERVICES As a result of representations made by the retail section of the South Canterbury Employers’ Association, word has been received that the Sunday train services between Timaru and Christchurch are to be resumed forthwith. The cesation of these services had become a matter of serious concern to South Canterbury people, and it would now appear that the health authorities are in agreement with the suggestion that the necessity for the restrictions had ceased to exist. Telegrams were sent to the Minister of Railways and the Minister of Health, in reply to which the following telegram was received from the Hon. P. Fraser yesterday:— “After consultation with DirectorGeneral of Health and Medical Officer of Health for the District, I have decided to allow forthwith the resumption of the Sunday train services between Timaru and Christchurch.”
