"Wild Violets,” which is J. C. Williamson’s holiday attraction at His Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne, has settled down to what promises to be a successful run of some weeks and packed houses have been enjoyed since the first night. On New Year’s Eve all the vast audience were nearly all in evening dress and the theatre had quite a gala appearance. At the conclusion of the performance, which went with great zest, coloured streamers were thrown from all parts of the house on to the stage and returned by the artists until the audience could not be seen through the mass of coloured paper. Miss Marie De Varre, who gives one of the best performances of her career in “Wild Violets,” in thanking the audience for the wonderful reception and wishing them the Compliments of the Season worked off a new Knock Knock gag. In response to the Chorus who called out "Who’s There,” “Shoulder,” replied Miss Le Varre. “Shoulder Who,” "Shoulder Acquaintance be Forgot” was Mane’s reply. This being the signal for the orchestra to play the well-known melody which was sung by the audience and artists in traditional sanner.
