The temperature was higher in Timaru yesterday than it has been for some time. Brilliant sunshine was experienced throughout the day. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—29.7l. Max. temp.—7l. Min. temp, on grass—47.4. Wind—E2. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—3.62ins. Rainfall to date last year—l.3lins. Sunshine—lo. 4 hours. Sunshine to date this year— 190.6hr5. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— Yeterday was sunny and pleasant with a maximum temperature of 66.8 degrees. There was a fresh easterly breeze in the morning and a strong easterly in the afternoon. The barometer was steady at 29.80 in. Ashburton— Ashburton sweltered yesterday under the fierce heat of the sun, but the conditions were relieved somewhat by a light easterly breeze. The weather appears to have become settled. Early in the morning the sky was overcast, but the blanket of clouds dispersed with the first rays of the sun. Temuka— Although yesterday broke dull and overcast, the sun commenced to shine about 10 a.m. and continued to do so all day. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees and the minimum 46. The glass was falling last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday)—Thermometer: Maximum 63; minimum, not working. Bright sunshine, 1 hour 6 minutes. Wind gauge—miles run in the last 24 hours, 99. Yesterday was overcast and cold in the morning, but the afternoon was warm and sunny. Dunedin— The weather yesterdav was warm with a slight breeze from the north-east. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees. The barometer fell from 30.00 in to 29.80 in. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation —An anti-cyclone is centred east of the North Island, while another is advancing on to South-Eastern Australia. A tropical cyclone of only moderate depth is moving southwards and was centred at 3 p.m. about 150 miles east of Norfolk Hand. A shallow depression also is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Winds—North-east to northerly, to northerly moderate to strong north of Kawhia and East Cape and reaching gale force in many places, elewhere light to moderate but freshening; a change to southerlies extending over the southern half of the South Island to-morrow. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Becoming rough north of East Cape, elsewhere light to moderate, but rising in the Cook and Foveaux Srait areas. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong northerly winds, but a change to southerlies advancing from the west, seas moderate to rather rough. Weather—Cloudy to overcast in Auckland province and rain developing with some heavy falls elsewhere fine at first but rain gradually extending southwards and scatter ed falls developing also in the western and southern portions of South Island; temperatures warm.
