The Australian tennis championships semi-finals resulted: Men’s Singles Bromwich beat Crawford, 6-1,7-9, 6-4, 8-6. McGrath beat Hopman 6-4, 6-1, 7-5. In a spectacular match lasting 21 hours, young Bromwich triumphed over J. H. Crawford, owing to consistency and better condition. Crawford was extremely tired at the finish. Bromwich displayed a unique fighting spirit and had the crowd on its tiptoes. He serves right hand, drives left hand, and uses the double-handed grip on the right side. A meeting of the two youngsters, McGrath and Bromwich in the final on Saturday is awaited with great interest. McGrath found Hopman much below the form of yesterday, when he beat Quist. Women’s Doubles Semi-finals Misses T. Coyne and Wynne beat Misses V. Selwin and A. Hattersley, 6-3. 4-6, 6-3. Medames Hopman and Westacott beat Misses J. Hartigan and M. Blick, 6-4 6-3. AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS By Telegraph— Pfpr» Atworfatlon AUCKLAND, January 28. M. T. Wilson (Eden and Epsom) beat D. C. Coombe (Wellington), the New Zealand champion, in the third round of the Auckland tennis championships, 6-1, 9-7, 6-1. This is the second time this week that Coombe has been beaten by an Aucklander, A. D. Brown having beaten him in the Wellington champ’onship. In the women’s singles, Miss Margaret Beverley, the 18-year-old Matamata player, eliminated Miss Dulcie Nicholls, the New Zealand titleholder, in three sets. Miss Beverley outplayed her opponent.
