SHOE SILHOUETTES
ITALIAN INFLUENCES Now that tourists are once more visiting Italy freely, the shoe trade there has receive da definite fillip, as Italian shoemakers are famous (states an exchange). High heels, arched insteps, and cut out sandal styles are most attractive. An afternoon shoe in the sandal type has the vamp extended in a tongue or tab, which finishes high over the instep, and the sides are completely cut away, the shoe being held by a narrow strap at the top. Paris has made some departures in shoe-designing which are interesting the fashion world. Faceted heels for intricate sandals are an innovation. An elongated foot silhouette is one of the latest trends for formal wear, hut sports shoes retain the round toe. Dark brown kid, with a reddish tinge, and dark blue are worn. For evening shoes, gold is returning to favour, largely for economy’s sake, but there are models in crepe de chine, with gold kid pipings. Sandals are featured with open toes and heels, rather than open at the sides.
