TIMARU RECORDS Sun rose at Timaru to-day 4.56 a.m.; sets 8.14 p.m. High water at Timaru 5.12 p.m. to-day; 5.36 a.m. to-morrow. (Corrected to Summer Time) CONDITIONS IN TIMARU A great improvement on the wind and rain of Monday was noticed yesterday when, although the sky was clouded, there were several hours’ sunshine. The cold southerly, however, still prevailed, and conditions out of shelter were not pleasant. Records at the Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—3o.o4. Max. temp.—6l. Min. temp, on grass—24.6. Wind—S.E.3. Rainfall since 9 p.m. Monday—.osin. Rainfall to date this year—3l.sBin. Rainfall to date last year—lB.99in. Sunshine—4.9. Sunshine to date this year—1527.26 hours. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: The weather yesterday was sunny with passing clouds and fresh S.W. breeze. The maximum temperature was 59.5 degrees. The barometer rose to 30.30 in. Temuka: Yesterday was cold and bleak with no sun at all. From 2 p.m. on Monday 80 points of rain fell. The maximum shade temperature was 48 degrees and the minimum 44. The glass was rising last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Thermometer, highest 55.5, lowest 48; rain, 47 points; bright sunshine 12 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in the last 24 hours, 143. Yesterday morning was bright but toward mid-day the sky clouded over and became dull. Dunedin: The weather yesterday was calm and mild and the sky remained overcast throughout the day. The barometer rose to 30.30 in. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation.—An anti-cyclone is advancing on to the Dominion, but pressure is still low to the east and to the north-west, depressions being centred near the Chatham Island and west of Norfolk Island. Winds—Southerly to south-westerly, strong at times in the Cook Strait area and on parts of the East Coast, but otherwise li'ght to moderate, later backfreshening easterlies in the far noiriz* Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rather 1 rough to rough between East Cape and Banks Peninsula and in the Cook Strait area, elsewhere slight to . moderate but later rising north of East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Moderate to strong easterly winds and rather rough to rough seas in the northern portion, light to moderate south-easterlies in the central and southern portions with moderate seas. Weather—Cloudy to overcast and in places misty in the northern and north-eastern portions of the North Island with rain at times, elsewhere mainly fair to fine but some scattered showers probable on the East Coast; temperatures cool.
