’FLU EPIDEMIC FEARED
RAPID SPREAD IN U. S. A. HEALTH AUTHORITIES ACTIVE OUTBREAK IN MILD FORM United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received December 29, 10.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, December 29. The possibility of the United States facing the worst influenza and pneumonia epidemic since 1918 is seen by the health- authorities, who have issued warnings advising precautions. Cases numbering 316 have been reported in Chicago within 48 hours. Of this total, 66 are suffering from influenza. New York reported an increase in cases, but the outbreak has not reached the epidemic stage.
