PRINCESS ROYAL BORN

DAUGHTER TO HOUSE OF KENT CONGRATULATIONS FROM MANY LANDS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 25. The Duchess of Kent has given birth to a daughter. The doctor’s bulletin says that the Duchess and the Infant Princess are doing excellently. The news was immediately telegraphed to their Majesties, Queen Mary, and other members of the Royal Family. ‘ Sir John Simon motored to Belgrave Square, as the Home Secretary, according to a constitutional practice, must be present at the birth of a prince or princess. The Duchess’ parents spent the night at the house. The Duchess of Kent, the wife of the youngest of the Royal Princes, was formerly Princess Marina, daughter cf Prince and Princess Nicholas of Greece. Her marriage to the Duke of Kent on November 29 was the outstanding event of Europe in 1934, and was attended by three Kings and many foreign Royalties. Her son, the infant Prince Edward, who was born on October 9, 1935, is the first son born to the House of Windsor for more than a quarter of a century. Salvoes of forty-one guns were fired from the Tower Hill and Hyde Park, in honour of the Duchess of Kent’s daughter. Sheaves of Congratulations The Duchess of Kent’s baby is progressing well. Hundreds of congratulations have arrived from places throughout the Empire.
