AVIATION TRAINEES
BIG WAITING LIST NEW PLYMOUTH, December 16 More pupils than can be trained by one instructor and the equipment available are offering in the Western Federation Flying Club’s area, which includes the whole of Taranaki. Wanganui and Rangitikei. Wanganui delegates on the council of the federation were Insistent at a meeting last night that action should be taken promptly to secure the services of an additional instructor and further machines. It was stated that four machines were constantly engaged, but could not cope with the work. Further ground equipment would also probably be necessary. A representative sub-committee was appointed to investigate the whole position and to report to the next meeting. Wanganui delegates declared that as a result of the recent scholarship dozens of pupils were awaiting training at Wanganui, and northern delegates emphasised the necessity of keeping faith with trainees, many of whom had joined as a result of the scholarship contests at New Plymouth and Hawera. The suggestion was made that the Government should be responsible for seeing that all pupils offering received training, but Mr A. S. Burgess (Wanganui) expressed the opinion that little further help could be expected from the State.
