SERIOUS RELAPSE SUFFERED
ILLNESS OF SUPREME PONTIFF
IMPATIENT OF MEDICAL ADVICE
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received December 21, 7.35 p.m.) LONDON, December 21. The Rome correspondent of "The Dally Telegraph" says that the Pope relapsed and fainted on Sunday evening. His doctors called in Senator Pende, a glandular specialist. No bulletin was issued on the order of His Holiness. The doctors and nurses still find the Pope a strong willed patient. Recently he said to a Cardinal: “When my time comes, I pray that I may die in the chair at the writing table.” The Pope hopes to send Christmas messages to the world on Christmas Eve, but the doctors cannot say whether this will be possible, owing to the complications of asthma, high blood pressure and weak heart. The Vatican City correspondent of “The Daily Mall” says it is unofficially stated that the Pope is not recuperating as fast as had been hoped. The weakness is not grave enough to justify fears for his life, but his general condition Is poor. He still rises dally, attends Mass and receives Communion, after which he discusses business for at least an hour. CONDITION SATISFACTORY DENIAL OF REPORT OF FAINTING United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received December 22, 1.46 a.m.) VATICAN CITY, December 21. The Pope had a restful night and his conditions is satisfactory. It is denied that His Holiness fainted yesterday.
