MAORI AND PAKEHA
DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT By Telegraph—Press Association ROTORUA, December 21. The reported action of a school medical officer. Dr. Deans, in her treatment of Maori pupils attending the Te Kuiti District High School was discussed by the executive of the Maori Pakeha Federation at a meeting held in Rotorua during the week-end. The Te Kuiti delegates attending the meeting reported that the doctor, when she Inspected the district high school, had ordered the Maori children to be separated from the European and had ordered the Maoris to be Immersed in a large bath containing disinfectant. No similar action had been taken with regard to the European children. It was felt that tins differentiation placed the native children in a humiliating position, and it was decided ti write to the Government expressing the opinion that methods which implied racial differentiation should not be employed by school medical officers. It was stated that some days before the doctor's visit the native nurse had inspected the native children at the school and was quite satisfied with their condition
