BOAT CAPSIZES
OCCUPANT NARROWLY ESCAPES DROWNING By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, December 21. Forced to cling to his partly submerged open sailing boat for three hours when it capsized off Crusoe Island on Sunday morning, a young married man, Stanley Richard Brown, of Auckland, narrowly escaped drowning. He was picked up by a passing yacht. Leaving Auckland at 6 o’clock to take a quantity of gear to his week-end cottage at Blackpool Bay, Waiheke, Brown was sailing his 14ft. boat before the wind. When he was off Crusoe Island the boat jibed and the back stay prevented the boom from swinging over. The craft capsized and Brown was thrown into the water. He managed to grasp hold of the partly submerged boat and righted it sufficiently to be able to support himself. For three hours he hung on until the crew of a passing yacht, which has not been identified, drew close and to their astonishment saw Brown. He was taken on board and was dropped at a point on the southern end of Waiheke Island, wthta walking distance of his parents’ home at Blackpool Bay. He lost everything he had aboard the small boat, including a new suit, and when he returned to Auckland to-day he was wearing borrowed clothes.
