PAREORA EAST
GUIDE AND SCOUT PARTY One of the most successful functions ever held in Pareora, took place when the Pareora East Guide Company and Scout Troop entertained about 100 parents and friends at a Christmas party held in the Public Hall. The evening was spent in games and competitions. Items were given by the Guides. “The Jungle Dance,’’ acted by the club pack, was very popular. After supper Janet Whitticase presented Mrs Nelson, captain of the Guide Company, with a posy of flowers in appreciation of the work she had done during the year. Mr P. A. Coote thanked the Guides and Scouts for the most enjoyable evening and spoke of the fine work done during the year by the companies. Mrs Nelson, captain of the Guides, and Mr F. Turner, Scoutmaster, replied. The musical items were: Piano solos: Nola Bennison, Janet Whitticase, Jean O’Connor, and Barbara Scott; recitation, Fay Hurst; skipping dance, June Lawn; recitation, Heather Whitticase; Highland fling, Nessie Barr; recitations, Hazel Lange, Fay Hurst; sailors’ hornpipe, Bobbie Munro; operatic dance, June Lawn; tap dance, Hazel Lange.

CRIBBAGE EVENING The popularity of the cribbage evenings held by the Pareora East School Committee in aid of prize funds continues. A Christmas cake for first prize was won by Mrs Tnom, with Mrs O’Connor second. Another Christmas cake is to be played for at the next evening.
