S. J. McCABE
CRICKETER AND GOLFER Many of Australia’s leading cricketers are prominent golfers, yet some of them refrain from participation in golf on account of the fact that their cricket performances may be adversely affected. Others, however, have no such fears. As many as four or five play on the Sunday which interrupts play in a test match. Stan McCabe, who has been relieved of playing in grade cricket because of bigger engagements ahead, played in a golf match recently, and did very well, too,
says a Sydney writer. In a medal round at Manly he had a net 70 from the six mark, after dropping a stroke to par at each of the last three holes. McCabe’s handicap entitles him to play in golf championships, and his progress has been very rapid. Of the international cricketers he is probably easily- the best golfer. Unlike Don Bradman, who is classed as one of the type known as “natural golfers,” McCabe Is a close student of the game.
