Messrs E. J. Hill and St. C. Ferguson (Dunedin) are staying at the Grand. Mr G. M. Brown (Wellington) is staying at the Dominion. Messrs G. Carter, J. D. Brodie, J. Larsen (Wellington), G. Field (Ashburton) and L. Cheyne (Auckland) are staying at the Empire. Guests at the Grosvenor include Messrs F. Chapman (Auckland), J. H. Bevan (Sydney), R. Cox, R. Gossan, P. Sherlock (Christchurch), J. S. McKay (Dunedin). Sub-Inspector D. Scott, of Auckland, has been notified of his promotion to the rank of inspector. Mr Scott will remain in Auckland, as henceforth there will be two inspectors at the central station. Constable F. J. O’Halloran has been transferred from Timaru to the District Police Office, Greymouth. He will leave to take up his new duties early next week. The Governor-General and party paid a brief unofficial visit to Invercargill yesterday afternoon. After visiting the Public Hospital and the new hospital at Kew, they left for Bluff, where they boarded the Government steamer Matai, which sailed for the Sounds. His Excellency will leave the ship at Hokitika and go from there to the Franz Josef Glacier.
